Inc. Magazine

My most favorite publication these days is Inc. Magazine, a magazine devoted to "Small Business Ideas and Resources." Many articles are as the tag line says, business-related, but I believe the advice and information can also be applied to our everyday lives. It may sound cliche, I know. But to be successful, to be extraordinary, both in life and in work, sometimes the path we take to get there can have a similar terrain. Below are a few links to Ink articles I love! :)

Chaotic.

The above title is a clear description of the week thus far...
I am just surrendering to the chaos; letting it be as it shall be.

My Mantra, My Words

After teaching class this afternoon, I thought more and more about the previous quote in yesterday's post... I came up with something I can relate to even more so in my own words... stemming from what my life is showing me right now...

Create SIMPLICITY in your life.
Know what to let go of and what to hold tight to.
You can only spread yourself so thin; quality is so much more important than quantity. Learning how to "say no" can be both POWERFUL and UPLIFTING. :) -R. May

I am bringing this mantra into my life, my yoga teaching, my yoga practice... it's coming up all over the place !!!

My Current Mantra ...

Sometimes you've just gotta say no. To your mother. To your boss. Your friends. It's important... And here's more about WHY....

I went to lunch with a friend after a fabulous gymnastics class and she shared this with me and I just knew I had to stick with this... Because we had just been discussing how it is so easy, so simple to say yes... But we have to remember we cannot give our everything to something. We still need some of ourselves to keep moving, to stay strong, to BE ourselves.

I'm off to a potluck!! LOVE.

Your Purpose

Connecting back to our hearts allows us to see the path in front of us more clearly... Dive deep into your heart and ask yourself... What is my purpose and am I fulfilling it ? Am I breathing it, my purpose ? If not, what can I do to be closer to my purpose ?

Am I taking the easy road or am I taking the more adventurous road ? So many questions, but the answers lie in our hearts.

We are the deciding factor as to "What is next ?" "What happens tomorrow?" Swim in your purpose, dig deep, and open your eyes... because we are all going somewhere and we are our own guides on this journey.

Change is a Comin'

(photo taken from an airplane earlier this year)

With Fall quickly approaching (September 23rd), I have been thinking a great deal about change and new beginnings. While the seasons come and go, we are going through our days, going through the seasons. But what if we were to treat the seasons as though they were an OPPORTUNITY for change in our own lives? It make a lot of sense if you think about it. We all deserve a chance for a new start. The start of Fall is about turning the page and beginning a new chapter of our lives. It is a time of letting go of the summer rush and settling and melting into the cooler, slightly heavier feel that is Fall.

We eat different foods when fall hits - chili, butternut squash bisque, pumpkin everything, apples ... We begin different activities - college football (Warrr Eagle!), school, tailgating, Halloween, cozy parties by the fire pit, harvesting the garden ... We dress differently - starting to layer to keep ourselves warm ... And of course nature is in charge of the Fall - leaves changing colors to beautiful shades of orange, red, and yellow... cooler temperatures ... the night meets the day sooner than before as the days grow shorter ... Change is all around us now!!

So as we enter this new season, think about something in your life that is exciting or new that is happening in this great season... Keep this something close to your heart as our lives blend into Autumn... Or maybe you are ready to close a certain chapter in your life and turn a new crisp, white, blank page... Focus on this during the next week and focus on this new page as a clean slate, a new beginning. Change can be good for all of us - Embrace change as it is an opportunity, a chance for us all.

Missing My Dad...

Happy Father's Day to all the wonderful fathers out there. I am grieving over my father's death and I am missing him incredibly. Please remember to hug the ones you love and keep them close; for you will never know when they may have to leave this place. Think twice before expressing harsh words - every moment matters. May your relationships be filled with love and comfort...Family, friends... Whoever has touched your heart...

Joseph J. Altieri...Daddy... Rest in Peace, I love you forever.

QUOTE OF THE YEAR

I get a really awesome email everyday from PonderCentral giving me a great quote to think about. Here is what I found in my inbox December 31, 2010 and I think it has great meaning for 2011 and beyond..

"In the present moment we have the power to change, to be aware, to choose what we want and to allow our desires to appear. Yes, I said appear. Since all is energy and all possibilities exist in each moment, there is nothing kept from you, nothing you have to create and chase and take. You only need to align with your wealth, and it will appear to you. It is, in fact already here, right now. Your riches, your joy, your health are all here, right now. Why don't you see them, feel them? You are looking at something else. You don't expect it to appear. You are too focused on what you don't have."

WORDS OF WISDOM - DON'T SETTLE

The below advice from Paul Ferrini are words I tell my friends, but forget to tell myself... Always remember not to settle!!!

"Most of you know what you want, but you do not wait for it. You are constantly compromising your needs and your values to fit the situations which present themselves to you. You take the job or the relationship not because it offers you what you desire, but because you are afraid a better offer won't come. You live your life afraid to take risks because you do not want to give up the security you have.

I have news for you. That security is your death knell. It prevents you from asking sincerely for what you want.

If you are ready to release negative, masochistic, people-pleasing patterns, you must be willing to stand in the conviction of who you are, no matter how others respond to you. You must reach down deeply inside yourself and affirm yourself as you alone know yourself to be."

Paul Ferrini, in "The Silence of the Heart"
